Inspiring Improvement

Welcome to this the second  of our newsletters keeping you informed of latest developments, case studies, funding offers and upcoming events, as well as providing you with the chance to find out a bit more about our team.

Lean Business Solutions Ltd are pleased to announce the development of a new training programme designed to deliver key skills and to maximise a business’ chance of succeeding with Lean or Lean Sigma implementations.

We have developed what we believe to be a unique and cost effective offering that not only provides a number of ‘specialist experts’ within a business but also training for large groups of employees to allow them to play an active role in improvement teams functioning within their area.

At the core of the process is Lean Practitioner training which consists of 5 days training in the classroom focusing on the key Tools and Techniques of Lean and Project Managementand, supported by a further day of support during the completion of a workplace project.

For those wishing to progress there are two options, either Lean Leadership which focuses on Strategy, Management of Change, Leadership and Teambuilding, or for companies where variation is an issue within the business there is the option of following on with Six Sigma training, which will give the attendee a full Lean Sigma Green Belt qualification.

To ensure these ‘experts’ are not left isolated within the business we offer a two day Improvement Team Member Course, which provides attendees with a basic understanding of Lean Tools and Techniques as well as explaining how to work together through Teamwork, which will then allow them to successfully participate in work based improvement projects.

CASE STUDY

Implementing Lean Sigma Worldwide..

“Globally, we have improved productivity and added real improvements to the bottom line in excess of £ 4.7 million. Our customers appreciate our global, consistent approach to Lean”
Barry Coughlan, Rosti Plastics

Kerry Cochran, Director of Lean Business Solutions Ltd has been working with Rosti Plastics, a leading global injection moulding company, to help them develop their worldwide Lean improvement programme. Having successfully implemented many of the ‘standard’ Lean tools and techniques, the team at Rosti wanted to take improvements to the next level. Kerry suggested that Lean Sigma would be the next best step on their improvement journey as it combines the Quality of Six Sigma with the Speed of Lean to maximise shareholder value by achieving the fastest rate of improvement in customer satisfaction, cost, quality, process speed and invested capital.

Staff across the business are now undergoing Green Belt and Black Belt Training and are already undertaking projects that will deliver further significant bottom line savings to the business.

To quote Pat Williams, Managing Director of Rosti China:

“Kerry has been supporting Rosti China for a number of years implementing the Lean disciplines and supporting me in building a culture of continuous improvement. The Lean journey had its ups and downs but with the teams learning culture we have continued to integrate Lean into our processes and operations. Kerry has strongly supported building this platform and as we start to introduce Six Sigma within the Rosti group, I’m sure with Kerry’s approach and methodology we will continue the learning of the Rosti Lean/Sigma programmes. It has always been pleasure working with Kerry and he has been a key part of the Rosti China history. Thank you Kerry.”

Rosti Sigma Green Belt Training in Rosti China
– Rosti China’s View by Rosa Luo

Thirteen participants took part in a two-week training session of the Rosti Sigma Green Belt programme in China! After these two weeks, they are now playing their roles, to lead the continuous improvement activities in Rosti China.

It was a really fantastic learning journey. Participants learned many useful Rosti Sigma applications, such as Minitab (a statistics tool), SIPOC (logical reasoning and problem solving tool) and so on. Now the Green Belts are preparing their improvement projects. The Green Belts are ready to be the facilitators for continuous improvement, who will deliver advanced improvement ideas to others in our daily work. We look forward to seeing the changes happen in the company.

Actually, everyone in the company should understand the Rosti Sigma concept and contribute their valuable opinions. With the mentoring by Black Belts and the Master Black Belt, everyone in the company can be the process owner and stakeholder of the Green Belt projects.

Measurement is the first step that leads to control and eventually to improvement. If you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it. If you can’t understand it, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it.”
